Constitution and Bylaws

 

Article One – Purpose Statement
The "Bowtie Club of the Carolinas" is a non-profit organization made up of members who have an interest in Chevrolet and GMC cars and trucks from all years. The club was created to provide a forum for Chevrolet owners to meet, gather, and chat with one another and exchange ideas. This is to be done by way of regular meetings, electronic media and club sponsored events such as car shows and cruise-ins.

 

Article Two – Membership Requirements

Consideration for Membership is open to anyone of good character who has an interest in the ownership and enjoyment of Chevrolet and GMC cars and trucks. Upon submission of a completed application form, their petition will be put before the Governing Body for a majority vote at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Ownership of a Chevrolet or GMC vehicle is not a prerequisite for membership.

 

Article Three – Responsibilities of Members

Each member is expected to uphold the ideals of the Club and promote interest to any person they feel would make a good member.

Each member is encouraged to attend club meetings, recruit club members, promote and participate in planning and execution of club events.

Members are required to keep current on payment of club dues.

All members are to expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and moral manner when attending club events, using club communications media or when representing the club in any manner.

 

Article Four – Dues
Annual membership dues for the Club are currently $10.00 for member, spouse and family. Dues are due January 1st of each year. Payment should be made to the Club Treasurer or any current Officer. It is each members responsibility to arrange payment of their dues, no invoices or bills will be sent out.
All members of the Club that have made their annual dues payment are considered to be active members in good standing and are entitled to all benefits derived therein.

Persons delinquent on March 1st shall be placed on an inactive member list and will not be entitled to Club benefits until they are returned to active standing. Members whose dues remain delinquent on April 1st may be dropped from the Club

 

Article Five - Meetings
Meetings of the membership will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at a location that will be posted on a schedule on the club web site. Meetings may be added or cancelled by a majority vote of the members.

 

Article Six – Governing Body
The Governing Body of the Club shall consist of the elected officers. The duties of the Governing Body are to appoint/dissolve committees as they see fit and to act on all matters that affect the Club. Only in the case of emergence will they act without a vote of the membership. The Governing Body is the final authority on acceptance of new members and expulsions.
Every other year, the Club shall elect a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer Each Officer shall be elected by a majority vote of the Club members present and shall serve for a period of two years. The election shall be held at the October meeting and the new officers will take office on January 1st of the next year. Any member in good standing is qualified to be elected to the office of Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer. Only members in good standing and that hold an office on the governing body to be retired are to be considered as qualified to be elected to the office of President.

If circumstances prevail that one of the Officers is obliged to retire from office for personal reasons, the information must be submitted to the Club's Governing Body 30 days prior to their retirement. An election by the membership will then be held to fill the remaining term of the vacated office. Duties of each office are as follows:
    President: To preside at all regular meetings and take charge at any function or meeting of the Governing body.
    Vice-President: To assist the President or other Officers and to assume their duties when they are absent.
    Treasurer: To collect and keep account of all monies collected and expenditures made, and to submit or present a monthly financial statement to the membership. Upon retirement from office, all financial records and bank account information will be turned over to the newly elected treasurer.
    Secretary: To keep written record of the events of each meeting and to publish the minutes of same to each member by the next meeting date. On notification from the governing body, the Secretary shall have responsibility to contact delinquent members regarding their dues payment.

 

 Article Seven - Expulsions
Any member, who in the opinion or judgement of the Governing Body, shall bring unfavorable response from the public or law enforcement agencies, shall be subject to expulsion from the Club. A reprimand may be given for the first instance so long as deliberate intent was not obvious. Expulsion will follow in the case of a second offence. The vote of the Governing Body is final and the person who suffers expulsion will forfeit all rights and dues. Re-application for membership may be made in the following year, however, a vote of the Governing Body regarding acceptance will be final.

 

Article Eight - Prohibitions
No alcoholic beverages or controlled substances will be allowed on the premises or in any vehicle during a meeting, outing or Club function. Any member in possession of or under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance shall be expelled from that meeting or event and will be required to answer to the Governing Body.

 

Article Nine - Amendments
Any amendments to this Constitution shall be read at the meeting and voted on thirty days prior to becoming effective. A majority vote of the members present at the meeting is required to amend this Constitution.

 

Article Ten - Dissolution
In the event the Club is disbanded, any funds or assets remaining after settlement of all outstanding debts, shall be donated to a charitable organization as voted on by the members present at the final meeting.

 

Article Eleven -
The Club was organized with the intent that it be a family organization. The entire family of each member is invited to participate in all functions, however, only the member and their spouse will be allowed to vote at business meetings and only if they are members in good standing.

 

Article Twelve
The immediate family or close friends of each member shall make up an auxiliary to the Club and will be invited to participate in all social functions.
